Kylee's Spark Felt Around the World Posted by Posted by Loren Savage on 15 September 2015 Posted on: 15 September 2015
Using what is in her hands has been the key to success for Kylee Black. Kylee is the founder of Spirit Sparkplugs, an organisation that collects personalised gifts and encouragement books from New Zealand donors for distribution to children who have a disability or chronic illness in New Zealand and around the world.
More recently Kylee has also gained employment at IDEA services as a Self-Advocacy Co-ordinator, to empower people with intellectual disability to speak up for themselves.
Kylee has spoken publicly on numerous occasions about setting up a not-for-profit organisation, which she began from her bed when she was bed bound, in order to motivate other people and change attitudes around disability. Each time Kylee speaks publicly she creates new networks and pportunities for herself.
One time she spoke to an Enabling Good Lives forum for disabled people which got her name out to a number of disability support providers. When a job came up at IDEA services which matched Kylee’s skills and values she was in a good position to secure that role; having formed relationships with staff members at the service.
